About Reginald Liggins

I’m Reginald Liggins—a husband, father, grandfather, military veteran, and retired programmer who has discovered a love for writing. My faith, family, and life experiences shape what I share. I’m still learning and growing, and my hope is that something from my journey will encourage you in yours.

My Family and Roots

I was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, by Christian parents, alongside two brothers and three sisters. My parents and both brothers have since passed away, and I miss them dearly. I’m grateful for my sisters, though living across the country means we don’t see one another nearly as often as I’d like. The Portland, Oregon area has been home for more than 30 years.

I met and fell in love with my wife, Julie, while serving in the Navy. We’ve been married for nearly 40 years, and apart from my relationship with God, she is His greatest gift to me.

Together, we’ve raised five children—three sons followed by two daughters. I used to joke that we’d keep going until we had a girl or a basketball team! They’re all adults now, each different in wonderful ways, and we’re proud of every one of them. We’re also grandparents of two—so far.

Julie deserves much of the credit for raising our family. Military duty often took me away, and there were seasons of working two jobs while attending college and graduate school. Her love and commitment helped hold our family together, and I’m deeply grateful.

My Faith Journey

Though I’ve considered myself a Christian all my life, I haven’t always followed Jesus as I knew I should. There have been seasons when my life showed little evidence of the faith I professed. Yet I’ve always treasured God’s Word, and whenever I wandered, He graciously drew me back to Himself. His love for me has never failed.

Today, I strive to respond to that love by walking more closely with Him, trusting and relying on Him in every area of my life and through every circumstance. That ongoing journey is at the heart of The Moment of Choice.

Retirement has given me a different perspective on time, purpose, and eternity. I’m grateful for my journey, though I wish I’d learned sooner to trust God more fully. Today, I want to spend the years ahead walking closely with Jesus and encouraging others to discover the lasting satisfaction found in a relationship with Him.

My Years of Service and Work

My military service spanned 32 years: 16 years on active duty in the U.S. Navy, six years in the Navy Reserve, and ten years in the Air Force Reserve.

During my active-duty Navy career, I learned to develop computer application programs. That training laid the foundation for my civilian career as a computer programmer and analyst with the State of Oregon, from which I later retired. In the Air Force Reserve, I served as an Air Transportation Specialist.

Those years of military and civilian service were a significant part of my life. They also form part of the experience I bring to my writing today.

How I Came to Writing

My interest in writing goes back to a college class that required a lot of essays. I enjoyed putting my thoughts on paper—right up until I had to stand in front of the class and talk about them. Public speaking has never been my favorite thing!

Two of my sons are gifted writers: one writes fiction, and the other writes advertising copy for businesses. Over the years, I’ve wanted to share my faith, too, but speaking to groups or approaching strangers about it didn’t come easily. Writing offered a way to share what matters to me in a form that felt natural. Once I started, I discovered how much I enjoyed the process.

My first book grew out of a love I discovered later in life: golf. The Consistent Swing Blueprint was brief, much like my experience as a recreational golfer, but completing it gave me the confidence to write about something deeper and more personal—my faith. That led to The Moment of Choice, and the opportunity to encourage others through lessons I’m still learning myself.
